Faster than normal, my heart beats

Fear, tangible with the cold sweat on my palms

my breathing, short shallow puffs.

Outside the sun is shining, the birds are chirping.

It is a beautiful day and all is well with the world.

Why then can’t I shake this feeling of dread and apprehension,

why does my heart worry and trouble me with fears unfounded?

Two days and a phone call later, “You might wanna sit down honey, your dad… he’s gone… in an accident… two days ago”
